Many household utensils, such as cookware, tableware, water purifiers, or detergents, are made of chemical materials. The JFRL examines the suitability of the materials and also investigates the safety and efficacy of the products depending on its intended use.

Analysis items

    • Tests based on the Law for the Control of Household Products Containing Harmful Substances:
    • Formaldehyde, etc.
    • Standardization tests on containers/packages, toys and the composition of detergents based on the Food Sanitation Law.
    • Tests for synthetic resins based on the standards of other countries (FDA, etc.)
    • Tests based on the RoHS (restrictions on the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment):
    • Cadmium , Lead , Mercury , Chromium VI , PBBs (Polybrominated biphenyl) , PBDEs (Polybrominated diphenyl ether)
    • Tests based on the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS),
      Japan Water Works Association (JWWA):
    • Water supply equipment , Equipment and materials for water works , Water supply chemicalstests , Water purifiers , Synthetic detergents for kitchens ,Synthetic detergents for home laundering , Toilet soaps
    • Testing for antibacterial activity and efficacy, Testing of disinfectant activity, and Testing for the inactivation of viruses.
