In Japan, the new food labeling act has been enforced since April 2015 and allowed the third official category for health-claim-foods, Food with Function Claims (FFC).
According to the new act, food manufacturers can label the function claim on their products under their own responsibility.
FFC must be based on the scientific evidence for both safety and effectiveness. As an additional requirement, the application to the authority should be completed and opened for the public at least two months before marketing.
JFRL offers testing services for FFC through our analytical knowledge, experience, and reliance. By the end of 2015, we have contributed over 80 % of the FFC applications.

|DNA microarray analysis||
If analyzed by focused DNA microarray analysis, the expression of various genes in cells or tissues is evaluated. Then you can clarify effects of functional ingredients in your food samples.
Japanese Pharmacopoeia will be revised in late February.
|Detection of irradiation
|This test aims to confirm the irradiation ｔreatment of food in order to investigate whether it was irradiated or not.||9-Dec-13|
|Color||We measure color(ex. L,a,b) of samples with a colorimeter, and calculate the color changes (ΔE). ΔE can be applied to evaluate the change in color due to the passage of time and to compare color between products.||30-Oct-13|
